5 Ways To Make Your Christmas Jumper More Fashionable

  • 6 minute read

By Valentine Lacour

If, like me, you are a “Christmas-enthusiast” (and tend to go overboard with fairy lights and tinsel decorations), you are probably delighted to be wearing jumpers every day for the next few months. Even more, you might have a great collection of Christmas jumpers that you cannot wait to show off everywhere you go!

Well, if that’s the case, we have prepared for you five great looks that will allow you to pull off your best Christmas jumper without giving up your fashion sense! (I promise Christmas jumper doesn’t mean embarrassing!)

So here are our top 5 Christmas jumper looks and how to style them for any occasion!

Look 1: The Girl Boss

It’s not easy to show up at work with a Christmas jumper while keeping a professional look that won’t embarrass you in front of your colleagues or clients. Don’t worry, you don’t have to give up on your Christmas spirit to remain professional!

To avoid any embarrassing mistakes with this look, I advise you to live by one rule: Don’t do “too much”! Especially if you work in an office, (and unless you are going to a costume party), don’t go for a full-on Christmas outfit.

Ideally, you should build your look around the main piece of clothing: the Christmas jumper. You don’t have to choose a jumper with a giant reindeer head in the middle to stick to your Christmas theme. You can choose a more sober, elegant sweater with letterings or a Christmas message.

The sustainable brand Chinti and Parker has a selection of fun yet elegant jumpers, perfect for this look.

If you are not a styling pro, keep a neutral palette of colour for work. Focus on beige, white, black, and nude colours to match with a bright Christmas jumper!

We have styled this Chinti and Parker Christmas sweater with a white shirt (a wardrobe essential!) and a black Stella McCartney Skirt. If you are not comfortable wearing skirts at work, look for high waist trousers.

TIPS: If you choose a nude colour palette, you can play with patterns like with these Stella McCartney tartan trousers and colourful lettering jumper!

If you are not a heel person, no worries! This look also works perfectly with some cute trainers. Choose your most comfortable pair! To top it off, a nude beanie and a pair of golden glasses are a great way to finish the look.

TIPS: I personally like to wear high-waist bottoms and do a “French-tuck” with my jumpers.

Look 2: The Romantic Day Out

Winter doesn’t mean that you HAVE to stay in all day.

Sometimes London’s sky blesses us with a ray of sunshine, and we mustn’t’ waste this opportunity to show off our nicest outfit! And because it’s Christmas, why not give it a little extra Christmassy “je ne sais quoi?”

If you are going out with your partner on a nice, romantic day out, even in winter, I would advise wearing something that makes you feel good, pretty, comfortable. If you want to wear a big Christmas jumper, then do it! It doesn’t mean that you won’t look cute. On the opposite, you might find yourself taking hundreds of selfies under the giant Christmas wreath of Covent Garden (and you should, it’s beautiful!)

It’s time to update your Instagram account with Christmas-themed selfies!

We have styled this traditional Christmas Jumper from Boden with a cosy scarf and dark green mini slip skirt to stick with the Christmas-theme colours.

TIPS:  A silk dress that you haven’t worn since last summer works as well. It’s a good way to break seasonal fashion and wear more often your “must-have” pieces!

We love a long warm coat with ankle boots and cute accessories to finish the look. Take inspiration from these &other stories white boots and People Tree star-shaped earrings.

And don’t forget your camera!

Look 3: Shopping Session

Do you still have some last-minute Christmas presents to buy? Yes, me too!

Well, good news: We have put together the perfect look for your late Christmas shopping session!

We have selected a great, Christmassy coloured jumper from the sustainable brand Blake London. You can style it with your favourite pair of jeans. Our choice is the wide legs jeans from People Tree, a brand pioneer of ethical fashion. You can find these perfect white ankle boots at &Other Stories and a good size tote bag from Stella McCartney.

TIPS: Always bring a tote bag with you when you’re going shopping. It avoids having to buy unnecessary plastic bags!
You can finish the look with a wool beret found on Vestiaire Collective.

TIPS: As a French fashion addict, my best advice for you is: When in doubt, wear a BERET!

Look 4: The Chalet Girl

If Christmas really is “the most wonderful time of the year” for you, then this look will be your favourite!

Don’t we all dream about watching the snow falling by the window while warming up by the fireplace, holding a cup of hot chocolate, and listening to Christmas songs in the background?

If you do get the chance to have all of that (I’m extremely jealous), we have the perfect outfit for you. However, if you live in a never-snowy place, with no fireplace, don’t worry, you can still pretend with a fireplace video on Youtube. The outfit still works!

Here is what you need to reproduce our “Chalet Girl” outfit:

  • A cosy Christmas Jumper that makes you feel like you are being held by a pair of reassuring arms.
We love this Chinti & Parker cream embroidered wool-cashmere roll neck sweater with a vintage chalet vibe!
  • A soft pair of loungewear – leggings or pants – to hang out around the fireplace (or, lets be real, the TV). Fortunately, sustainable brand Ivy & Oak has the perfect pants for you!
  • Finally, this look cannot be complete without a warm pair of socks. You can find our favourite pairs on the Content Beauty site.

Look 5: Night Out

If it seems difficult to combine a Christmas Jumper and evening dress, I promise you that it’s not impossible! It’s all about choosing the right jumper.

Luckily, &Other Stories has plenty of great Christmassy jumpers that work perfectly for a night out look. For an elegant Christmas party, we chose a bright red, cropped cardigan with heart-shaped golden buttons on the front.

You can style it like us with a tulle dress from Needle & Thread, a brand committed to making the fashion industry more sustainable.

It’s time to channel your inner Carrie Bradshaw!

Elevate this look with a pair of high heels, red or black, according to your preference.

TIPS: I like to add a couple of golden accessories to finish this look, such as a handmade star and moon headband from Etsy, and golden jewellery.
