With climate change making our summers hotter year on year, we’re often left struggling with uncomfortable humidity. Luckily, with the current working-from-home situation, we’re not confined to suits and can dress more appropriately for the weather.
As we transition into the hottest months of the year, this week’s round up of our favourite ethical buys will help you master summer dressing and keep you cool yet stylish this season.
Fabrics
When it comes to clothing, think fabric first. If it’s made of a thick or clingy material, even the most breezy dress will quickly become oppressive. For hot days, organic cotton and linen are your best bet as these are relatively thin and won’t stick to your skin.
Shapes
Loose-fitting and flowing are the best when it comes to summer dressing, with these picking up and circulating even the slightest breeze and keeping you cool. Think ethereal maxi dresses and wide-legged trousers or culottes.
Footwear
Sandals and slides are your best friends, giving your foot space to breathe and helping keep your entire body cool.
To complete your wardrobe, our edit of the best conscious jewellery pieces will elevate your breezy summer look. If you’re just embarking on your sustainable journey, our article on why and how to be a mindful fashion lover is a great place to start. As a general rule of thumb when dressing for hot weather, the three things to avoid are tight-fitting clothes, synthetic fabrics as they tend to cling to your body, and dark colours. If you stick to thinner fabrics without too much close structure, you’ll have this season mastered.
