Halloween Outfits With A Minimal Twist

  • 3 minute read
Morticia Addams
The Sartorial Geek

By Kai Lin Tan

Halloween definitely has a reputation of being an ‘overly dressed costume festival’. With all the fun and interesting ideas for character cosplay, some of us might feel the pressure to dress up for this occasion. The question, “Who are you going to dress up as for Halloween?” always gets me thinking, what if I just want to dress up in my own way and not be a certain character?

Taking a minimal twist to Halloween might take the stress out of planning an entire set of outfit, and it might help to reduce the number of ‘your only wear it once’ outfit in your wardrobe.

Taking a new direction and planning your own Halloween look and vibe, instead of following a trend or character will stir your creative juices!

Mix and match from what you already have in your wardrobe with a couple of statement pieces, will help make this Halloween a more sustainable one.

Look 1 – Morticia Addams

Morticia Addams - Addams Family
Morticia Addams

One of the most iconic Halloween characters, Morticia Addams from the Addams family, has the simplest yet sophisticated look. An all-black full-length dress paired with a sleek hairdo and a minimal make up is the best character inspired look one can go for this Halloween.

Mix and match with your accessories and makeup, this look can be versatile for every occasion, while making your wardrobe a more sustainable one.

Look 2 – The Shining Twins

From another classic 80s horror movies, The Shining, the elevator scene with the blood gushing into the hotel floor comes the most famous characters, the twins. Their baby doll dresses are the key to their look, paired with a high-socks and a pair of flats, this look is easy to recreate and yet can be very wearable for any other occasion as well.

Elevate your Halloween look with a headband or a bow, with your hair down, you will definitely resemble the twins vibe from The Shining.

Look 3 – Corpse Bride

Corpse Bride
IMDB

Another classic animated Halloween movie, my cult favourite movie to go for every Halloween, Corpse Bride.

Following the lacy and bridesmaid look from the Corpse Bride dress, we go for a shorter version of the inspired look. This romantic white dress, paired with a pair of white stockings and a pair of stilettos, it is the perfect minimal look to embody the essence of the Corpse Bride.

Play with a few statement pieces and go minimal this Halloween.

You probably have have some similar pieces mentioned above in you wardrobe – which is even better! The best kind of Halloween is to play around with what you already have in your wardrobe and create something fun out of it. After all, it is a day where we get to experiment with our looks, the perfect day to dress up in whatever you want to be.

The stigma of buying Halloween costumes is overrated and who says we have to buy to impress? So, bring out your creative juices this Halloween and you might just surprise yourself with what you can come up with.
