Every time, at the beginning of a new year we tend to make a mental or an actual list of our new year’s resolutions. And each year we feel extra motivated to be better, smarter, healthier, more outgoing, less lazy and the list could go on and on and on.
However, these resolutions often get forgotten within our busy lives and we often eventually end up saying “Maybe I’ll start and do that next year”. It gets hard to keep up with our goals and achieve them when we get busy with everything else.
Hence why, it is easier to create small but life changing habits we can implement into our existing lifestyles slowly but surely. Let me introduce you to five habits you need to adopt in the year of 2021 to help you achieve your goals and make your wellbeing better!
These five habits could easily change your mindset, make your days more pleasant and help you be more focused.
I am sure that after 2020, many of us could not wait for the new year to begin! We feel full of hopes, expectations, and excitement to turn over the page and start a fresh new chapter. Let’s do it in the right way!
“There is nothing magical about the flip of the calendar, but it represents a clean break, a new hope, and a blank canvas.”
― Jason Soroski
Adopt the habit of the cold shower therapy
Although it may sound scary at first, so many people swear by cold showers! No wonder, a cold shower can have an amazing impact on your mind and body. To take a cold shower you need to step out of your comfort zone and even though it takes a lot of strength, the benefits and the feeling afterwards are totally worth it!
When performed daily, cold showers can become your daily mood booster, but I would recommend to start with your usual shower temperature first and then to finish it off with 30 seconds of cold water by the end of your shower. The benefits of cold showers include reduction of stress, better concentration throughout the day, increased willpower, and in long-term cold showers can boost your immune system as well as contribute to weight loss.
All this sounds amazing, right? I highly recommend to adopt this habit in 2021 as it will help your overall wellbeing!
Find the time to do what you love daily
You probably do not even realise, but in order to be fully focused, in a good mood and energised for work, you need to take care of yourself. The morning or night before work, try to find the time to do what you love and what puts you in a good mood daily.
Either it is listening to your favourite music, fully enjoying your coffee or breakfast, or it might be doing your skincare routine.
Simply adopting this daily habit of giving time to doing something that you love in 2021 can make you feel better and more focused. This will then allow you to perform your job or fulfil your tasks exceptionally well.
“Think thoughts that make you happy. Do things that make you feel good. Be with people who make you feel good. Eat things that make your body feel good. Go at a pace that makes you feel good.”
― Louise L. Hay, You Can Heal Your Life
Read, listen and constantly learn – make it a habit in 2021
Learn to use your time well! Try to incorporate books or podcasts into your daily life simply by reading or listening on your daily walk or commute.
Investing time into your self development is key, especially now that there is a huge number of books, podcasts and articles that give us a great opportunity to grow.
Be kind to yourself and manage your time so you find the time to relax and create opportunities for yourself at the same time. Train your mind to absorb information and get inspired on the go.
Exercise
Now I know that recommending daily exercise is a bit of a cliché. However, trust me, incorporating exercise into your daily routine is crucial for your wellbeing!
Sometimes a simple walk, run or even 10 minutes of exercise can have huge benefits on your mood and it definitely has an exceptional impact on your health and wellbeing.
Also, exercise is highly effective when dealing with depression, anxiety, or stress. Studies show that regular exercise has proven to benefit mental and physical health and it can become your best tool for how to feel better daily.
Make it a habit in 2021! There are so many different workouts and methods out there, find the one that is right for you and your lifestyle. Either it is walking, running, pilates, yoga, HIIT or any other form of exercise, YOU WILL NEVER REGRET A WORKOUT !
Make a plan and stick to it
And when I say ‘make a plan’, I do not mean planning your whole life in advance. Simply, create a daily to-do-lists that will help you manage your day more smoothly. Include the things you aim to do in a day, putting the most important tasks at the top of the list.
Crossing out a task on your to-do-list will not only make you feel relieved, it will also motivate you to cross and finish all of them. Being organised and sticking to it is a great habit to get used to in 2021!
However, do not overtask yourself. Give yourself kind breaks and time to breathe, do not try to be a superhuman. Remember to make your to-do-lists to achieve, not to fail, create them to motivate you, not to put you down.
It might help if you split the big tasks into a few smaller ones and they will become easier to complete and achieve!
